カタカナ

皆さんこんにちわ
先週の木曜日私は友達とえいがをみました。zombielandをみました。とてもおかしですね

さいきんわたしたちはカタカナを習います。(see below for some katakana "usage" that I found) がんばって

Katakana Analysis: It seems that some words are written in Katakana - even though they could potentially be written in Hiragana to act as an emphasis. Similar to the use of Italics in English. Dependent upon the context, the switch of a particular word into Katakana could be to indicate an alternative / underlying meaning (humor/ "cute"-ness/ sarcasm)

Example:
そのふくはかわいい (sono huku (clothes) wa kawaii)
そのふくはカワイイ
The use of katakana for "cute" emphasize and makes that adjective stronger.

or using one of the new words above (
ニコニコnikoniko : smiling)
かのじょはにこにこしている (she is smiling)
かのじょはニコニコしている (she is smiling - emphasis on her smile - in a novel perhaps the protaganist is smiling for a reason that other characters have not yet come to comprehend, but the readers understand her motives)

  2. I like your insightful analysis!

Though, I am not sure if all the readers would feel the same way you did when they read the sentence like "かのじょはニコニコしている".
As a native speaker's intuition, both にこにこand ニコニコ carry an emphatic sound.

Since there is no right or wrong answer to it, I would say that it really depends on each reader's interpretation at the moment.

    よくかんがえてあるぶんせき(analysis)だと思います!
    これからもがんばってくださいね。

  3. Hello. I'm Asuka.
I'm Bunkyo University student in Japan.

I'm very interested in your analysis.
Your opinion is to the point.
When we use Katakana, it use as foreign words and onomatopoeia and we feel cool to use Katakana according to the situation.

I think your Japanese is very good.
And I tell you your mistake.
    Funny is not おかし.It's おかしい.

I'm surprised that you're from Australia.
Because I had gone to study English in Australia for 3 months!
